Manifesto

The Salford labour party pledges to fulfil its promises to the people of the City
We pledge the following:

Creating Jobs for you
Under Labour 2.5m more jobs have been created. In Salford
the number of jobs has been growing faster than the
national average. The City Councils’ job friendly
policies help more of our people into work every day.
We will continue and strengthen our work to bring more
high quality jobs to Salford and equip our people with
the skills required.

Educating our children
Salford’s Secondary Schools are improving faster than the
national average – 13% in the past two years. The
majority of our schools (as reported by OfStEd) are
“good” or “outstanding”. We will rebuild or refurbish
every Secondary School in the City so they all have the
best 21st Century facilities. We will continue with our
extensive updating programme of physical facilities in
Primary and Junior Schools.

Building a beautiful City
Salford will continue with and enhance its re-cycling
provisions. Street cleaning and refuse collection have
improved faster than the national average. Investment
continues in our Parks and will be increased. Planning
policies will address the issue of climate change by
introducing green standards for building and maintaining
properties and by introducing rigorous travel plans for
businesses. The Council will continue to demand the
highest quality design from developers.

Communities Matter
Building on 12 years experience Labour in Salford is
devolving more decisions to local communities – hand in
hand with physical regeneration. From Cadishead in the
west to Broughton and Blackfriars next to the regional
centre redevelopment continues apace. Influencing how an
area looks and feels and specifically allocating money to
local issues is the future in Salford.

Safer Salford
Through partnership with enforcement agencies (GMP and
Environmental Officers) crime has reduced by 4.4% overall
in the City. We have achieved Home Office Respect Area
Action status due to our performance in tackling antisocial
behaviour. We have introduced restrictions on
drinking in public places and continue to vigorously
prosecute those who sell alcohol to under age persons. We
will continue these efforts and increase the number of
PCSO’s in the City – extend the use of CCTV but also be
determined in our efforts to reduce re-offending.

Caring for all
Adult Social Services in Salford are rated as among the
best in the Country (various independent reports). We
continue to help many adults lead independent lives
rather than being placed in an institution. Our
Children’s Services are making a real difference to young
people across the City. A network of Children’s Centres
is being set up to provide support to children and
families. Our Welfare Rights Service continues to bring
£ms into the City. We will continue to develop
independent living, further integrate Health and Social
Care work across the City and introduce a rights charter
for those needing care.

Vote Labour in Salford. Any thing else is unthinkable!
